Colombia South America is a tropical country located in northwestern South America, world famous for its diverse natural resources and its high-quality coffee. It is the third most populated country in Latin America and the fourth largest area in South America. It is divided into 32 regions, we call "departamentos".
The country's geography is varied. The Republic of Colombia has an impressive mountain chain with three mountain ranges: the Cordillera Central, the Cordillera Oriental and the Cordillera Occidental.
Some of the most important tourist destinations are part of the so called peripheral mountain system, among these: the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the Serrania de La Macarena and the mountains of the department of La Guajira.
Colombia also has many plains and valleys, and its coasts are covered by two oceans: Pacific and Caribbean.
By the end of the fifteenth century, Spanish invaders came to Colombia, so most of the Colombian population is of European ancestry. The rest of the population corresponds to Afro-descendants and indigenous natives -there is evidence showing that the latter were organized in chiefdoms long before the Christian era.
However, it is common to find in Colombia people with the most diverse backgrounds. For example, an important community of descendants of the Middle East lives on the Caribbean coast.

The diversity is due to Colombia's geography, which gives shape to the most varied ecosystems: moorland, savannah, rain forests, mountainous areas, coasts and plains.
Colombia South America, has a remarkable road, airport and hotel infrastructure. The security of the country has been improving every year, so the tourism sector has been strengthened and Colombia has positioned itself as one of the most important tourist destinations in the region.
This has been possible due to the variety of breathtaking destinations offered by the country: natural paradises, historic cities, colonial buildings and religious monuments, as well as many carnivals, fairs and festivals.
And please, do not forget the right way to write it is "Colombia" not "Columbia".
